I came across this Fingerprint Scanner App by Zen Solutions Apps on Google Play quite randomly, honestly. It's one of those utility tools that claims to lock your apps and hide photos using your fingerprint, which sounds handy if you share your phone with friends or family. The description says it's free to download, and it had a decent number of installs last I checked. When I first opened it, the interface felt extremely basic—just a couple of buttons and a place to register your fingerprint. It asked me to set a backup PIN right away, which felt a bit heavy for a first launch, but I understood the logic. There was no flashy intro or tutorial, just a straightforward "set it up now" screen.

After registration, the real hands-on experience started. I tried locking my gallery first, and the app walked me through granting accessibility permissions, which felt a little invasive but is common with these tools. Once that was done, I could choose specific folders or apps to lock. The fingerprint scanning itself was pretty hit-or-miss. Sometimes it unlocked on the first try; other times I had to tap the sensor three or four times. The main screen shows your locked items in a simple list, and you can toggle them on or off. I did notice that the app occasionally crashed when I switched between settings too quickly. Not a dealbreaker, but it made the process feel less polished. A small tip: keep your finger clean and dry, or the scanner gets stubborn.

After using this app for a couple of weeks, I'm a bit split on it. On one hand, it does the job for someone who just needs a simple way to hide a few private photos or lock Instagram. On the other hand, the inconsistency of the fingerprint sensor got annoying fast. Compared to something like AppLock by DoMobile Lab, which has a smoother interface and fewer crashes, this one feels more like a side project. I think the only people who'd keep this installed are those who don't want to pay for a premium locker app and don't mind a few hiccups. For me, I ended up uninstalling it because the lag and sensor issues outweighed the convenience. It's not terrible, but it's not something I'd recommend without hesitation.

features

  • 🔐 The app uses your device's built-in fingerprint sensor for unlocking, so there's no need to mess with third-party patches or extra hardware. That said, it's slower than the native lock on my Xiaomi, where the sensor usually unlocks in under a second.
  • 📂 It allows you to lock specific apps and hide entire folders, which is nice for privacy. But compared to something like AppLock, which lets you set separate passwords for each app, this one only uses your fingerprint, which can be limiting.
  • 🖼️ There's a hidden vault for photos and videos that you can move into a secure folder outside your gallery. That's actually more useful than I expected, because you can store sensitive content without it showing in random photo libraries.
  • ⚙️ You can set a fake cover screen, like a calculator or a fake crash screen, to mislead someone who tries to open the app. It's a clever trick, but in practice, it feels gimmicky—it doesn't always trigger smoothly, and sometimes it just lags.

pros

  • 👍 It's completely free with no hidden paywalls for basic features, unlike Norton App Lock which pushes a subscription. That's a big plus if you just want simple protection without spending a cent.
  • 👍 The interface is very lightweight and doesn't drain your battery in the background. I noticed no difference in battery life, whereas some similar apps like Smart AppLock used to slow down my phone noticeably.
  • 👍 Setup is fast once you get past the initial permissions. If you only need to lock two or three apps, you can be done in under two minutes. That's much quicker than Locket's multi-step wizard, which feels cluttered.

cons

  • 👎 The fingerprint accuracy is inconsistent—sometimes it works instantly, sometimes it takes five attempts. In comparison, AppLock by DoMobile Lab has a much more reliable scan that rarely fails.
  • 👎 It requires accessibility service permissions to function, which some users might find intrusive or a security risk. Other apps like Norton App Lock manage to work without this permission, which feels safer.
  • 👎 The app occasionally crashes when you switch between settings tabs quickly, and the ads are pretty frequent. Free alternatives like Smart AppLock have fewer interruptions and a more stable experience overall.
