So, I gave this app called Beauty Camera -Selfie, Sticker by Leopard V7 a try. It's basically one of those photo editing and beauty apps you find all over the Google Play store, with a pretty high install count, and it's free to download. The main draw is taking selfies and applying all sorts of filters, stickers, and beauty effects to make your pictures look more polished. I downloaded it out of pure curiosity, honestly, because who doesn't want a quick fix for a tired face? The first impression after launching it was a bit overwhelming. You're hit with a busy interface right away, with tons of options and banners for other features. It felt less like a simple camera and more like a full-blown editing suite that was trying to sell me things from the get-go. There's no real registration needed to start snapping photos, but the in-app purchases and ads are pretty front and center.
Once I actually started using it, the hands-on experience had its ups and downs. The camera opens fast enough, and you can take a selfie immediately. The real work happens after you take the photo, in the editing screen. You get sliders for smoothing skin, slimming your face, and enlarging your eyes, all the classic beauty stuff. I found myself sliding the skin smoothing slider a bit too far at first, which made me look like a wax figure. A practical tip I picked up was to keep the beauty effects low, around 20-30%, or you lose all texture in your skin. The sticker collection is massive, with stuff for holidays, moods, and even funny animal ears. Navigating through the sticker library was a bit laggy on my mid-range phone, but once I found one I liked, applying it was straightforward. The app also has background blur and some basic color filters, but none of them felt particularly unique.
After a few days of playing around with it, I have a mixed opinion. I think someone who just wants a quick, heavy-handed beauty filter for a single selfie might enjoy this. But for anyone who's used to more refined apps like YouCam Perfect or even the built-in editing tools on an iPhone, this feels a bit clunky and outdated. What makes it different is the sheer volume of stickers, but the quality is hit or miss. I can see someone keeping it installed if they love adding goofy stickers to every photo. The reason I'd likely uninstall it is the constant nagging to buy a premium version to unlock specific filters or remove watermarks. It just feels like every tap is trying to sell me something, which ruins the casual fun of taking a quick selfie. It does the job, but it's not an app I'd recommend without mentioning the downsides.
features
- 🤳 One-click beauty presets shine here. Unlike the manual sliders in YouCam Perfect that give you total control, this app bundles complex edits like skin smoothing and face slimming into a single tap. It's great for a quick fix, but you cannot tweak each effect individually after applying a preset, which limits fine-tuning.
- 🎨 The sticker library is enormous and constantly updated. You get way more themed sticker packs than something like Retrica. The downside is the app's laggy interface when browsing through them, making it feel slower than more optimized competitors.
- ⚡ The automatic background blur is surprisingly effective. It does a decent job detecting edges, better than some free apps. However, it lacks the advanced manual adjustment brushes you'd find in AirBrush, so you can't refine blurry hair or tricky spots.
pros
- ✅ The beauty effects are aggressive and work well for low-quality selfies. If your front camera is bad, this app can smooth out noise better than YouCam Perfect's more natural approach, giving a much more polished look instantly.
- ✅ It is completely free to download with no forced subscription upfront. Unlike Facetune which locks basic features behind a paywall, this app lets you use most beauty tools right away, only limiting premium sticker packs.
- ✅ The sticker filtering by theme is intuitive. You can quickly find holiday-specific or mood-based stickers without searching. This is a clear improvement over how B612 organizes its sticker tab, which can feel messy.
cons
- ❌ The constant pop-up ads are annoying. Every time you switch modes or save a photo, an ad plays. This is way more intrusive than the discreet banner ads in YouCam Perfect, making the free experience feel cheap.
- ❌ The app forces a watermark on saved images unless you watch an ad or pay. Most similar apps like Retrica let you turn off watermarks in settings for free. This feels like an unnecessary obstacle for casual users.
- ❌ The beauty preset edits are not adjustable. Once you tap a preset, you cannot edit individual levels of skin smoothing or eye enlargement. Competitors like AirBrush let you apply a preset and then still tweak each slider separately for much more control.
