Garten of Banban 2 is a first-person horror puzzle game that has made quite a splash on mobile devices. It's a pure mobile game, available for download on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, though I've only played it on my Android phone. It first launched in early 2023, and since then, it's racked up over 10 million installs on Google Play alone, which is pretty impressive for an indie horror title. The game is completely free to download and play, but like many free-to-play mobile games, it does include in-app purchases. You can drop anywhere from $1.99 to $9.99 on things like cosmetic skins or hints to help you through tricky puzzles. There are also occasional in-app ads that you can watch voluntarily for extra lives or tips, but they aren't forced on you, which I appreciate.

Playing Garten of Banban 2 is all about exploring the eerie, abandoned Banban's Kindergarten. You navigate through creepy hallways, solve environmental puzzles, and try to avoid the monstrous toys that roam around. The best part of the game for me is the atmosphere—it has that unsettling, low-poly horror vibe that reminds me of early Slender: The Arrival or even Poppy Playtime. The jump scares are effective without being cheap, and the puzzles require real thought, not just trial-and-error. My favorite part is the chase sequences with the giant, twisted characters like Stinger Flynn; they really get your heart pumping. The controls on Android are decently optimized, with a virtual joystick and swipe gestures for interactions, though I did have to tweak the sensitivity settings to get it feeling right.

If you've played Poppy Playtime or Five Nights at Freddy's, you'll see some similarities here—both deal with creepy animatronics and industrial settings. But I recommend Garten of Banban 2 over those because it's a mobile-native experience that doesn't feel like a watered-down port. For example, Poppy Playtime works best on PC or console, while this game was built specifically for touchscreens. It's also less jump-scare dependent than FNAF and focuses more on exploration and puzzle-solving, which I find more engaging. The story is also pretty wild and has that same "what the hell is going on?" charm as Bendy and the Ink Machine, but on your phone. If you're looking for a solid horror game to kill time on the bus or before bed, this app is worth the install. Just be ready to jump now and then.

features

  • Fluid Touch Controls 🎮: Unlike some mobile horror games that feel clunky, Garten of Banban 2's Android controls are smooth. The virtual joystick is responsive, and the interaction prompts (like opening doors or grabbing items) are well-placed. It's a far cry from Poppy Playtime's mobile port, which often feels laggy.
  • Immersive Sound Design 🔊: The audio is top-notch—creaking floors, distant footsteps, and eerie ambient noises really build tension. Compare it to Five Nights at Freddy's, where sound is mostly for jump scares; here, it's used for atmosphere and puzzle hints, making you feel like you're actually in that creepy kindergarten.
  • Free-to-Play Model Without P2W 💰: You can beat the entire game without spending a dime. The in-app purchases are for cosmetics or optional hints, unlike some horror games on Google Play that lock essential content behind paywalls. It's refreshing to have a complete experience for just the download cost.

pros

  • Atmosphere and Tension 😱: The game nails that creepy, abandoned school vibe. The low-poly art style adds to the uncanny feeling, and the soundtrack keeps you on edge. Compared to Poppy Playtime, which relies on its studio-quality animation, Garten of Banban 2 uses simplicity to spook you effectively.
  • Interesting Puzzle Design🧩: The puzzles are clever and vary from simple key hunts to more complex pattern-solving challenges. They're not too hard to be frustrating, but not too easy to be boring. This beats Five Nights at Freddy's, where the gameplay is mostly just watching cameras and closing doors.
  • Mobile Optimization 📱: This game runs smoothly on a wide range of Android devices, from budget phones to flagships. Load times are quick, and the battery drain is reasonable. Unlike some PC ports like Bendy and the Ink Machine on mobile, this one feels built for touch from the ground up.

cons

  • Short Playtime ⏳: The main story can be finished in about two hours, which feels a bit short for a paid-free game. Compared to Poppy Playtime's chapters, which offer more content per release, this leaves you wanting more. I wish there were more hidden areas or collectibles to extend the experience.
  • Repetitive Chase Sequences 🏃: While the chases are fun initially, they feel a bit repetitive after a while. The same "run and hide" formula gets old, unlike Five Nights at Freddy's, which keeps tension high through camera management. Some variety in enemy behavior would help.
  • Bugs and Glitches 🐛: On my Android device, I occasionally ran into collision glitches where I'd get stuck on furniture, or sound would cut out. It's not game-breaking, but it breaks immersion. Compared to more polished games like Bendy and the Ink Machine on PC, this one needs a few more patches for stability.
