Hitman Sniper by Deca Games is a mobile sniper simulation game that puts you in the shoes of Agent 47, but with a twist—you're glued to a single vantage point, taking out targets from a distance. It's primarily an Android and iOS game, available for free on the Google Play Store and App Store, with a hefty 50 million-plus installs globally. That's a massive player base, and for good reason. The game is free to download and play, but it's loaded with in-game purchases, from weapon upgrades to special ammo packs, generally ranging from $1 to $20, and you'll also encounter the occasional in-app ad, which is a bummer but pretty standard for mobile F2P titles. It's not on PC or consoles like Steam or Xbox, which is a shame because the core loop would translate well to a bigger screen, but Deca Games has kept it strictly mobile. The game first launched back in 2015 under Square Enix, and Deca took over later, so it's been around for a while and has aged decently for a mobile shooter.
Playing Hitman Sniper is all about patience and precision. You're set up in a fixed location—think rooftops or hotel balconies—and you have to eliminate a list of targets, often in creative ways to earn bonus points. The best part is the "instinct" system, where you can slow down time to line up the perfect headshot, and the ability to manipulate the environment, like shooting a hanging chandelier to drop on a target or blowing up a fuel tank for a chain reaction. My favorite part is chaining kills together—taking out a guard, then quickly snapping to the main target before the alarm sounds. It feels like a puzzle game disguised as a shooter, and that keeps me coming back. The graphics are solid for Android, with decent textures and lighting, but don't expect console-level detail. Controls are touch-based, with a drag-to-aim and tap-to-shoot setup, which takes some getting used to but works well once you dial in the sensitivity.
Compared to other sniper games on Google Play like Sniper 3D or Sniper Fury, Hitman Sniper stands out because it's more methodical. Sniper 3D is a cash-grab with too many ads and paywalls, while Sniper Fury feels clunky and repetitive. Hitman Sniper keeps you engaged with multiple objectives per mission—like finding the target, earning extra cash for silent kills, and avoiding civilian casualties. It's not perfect; the grinding for currency to upgrade rifles is a drag, and the levels can feel samey after a while. But if you're into stealth and strategy over mindless shooting, this is the better pick. I recommend it because it respects your time more than its competitors, and the immersive sniper fantasy—being in Agent 47's head—is something other mobile snipers just can't replicate.
features
- Instinct Mode 🎯: Slows down time to let you line up perfect shots, chain kills, or hit moving targets. It's a game-changer for precision and makes you feel like a real assassin.
- Environmental Kills 💥: Shoot explosive barrels, chandeliers, or gas leaks to take out multiple enemies at once. This adds a puzzle element that other snipers like Sniper 3D lack entirely.
- Weapon Customization 🔫: Upgrade scopes, silencers, and damage stats on rifles like the iconic WA2000. You can grind or buy parts, but the variety keeps each mission fresh.
pros
- Strategic Depth 🧠: Unlike Sniper Fury, which just throws waves of enemies, Hitman Sniper rewards planning. You can trigger events to lure targets into traps or synchronize shots for maximum efficiency.
- High Replayability 🔄: Each mission has optional challenges, like "no body found" or "only headshots," encouraging you to replay levels. Sniper 3D's linear design doesn't offer this, so you get more bang for your time.
- Immersive Atmosphere 🌆: The sound design and visual cues, like target murmurs or distant city noise, pull you into the role. It's polished compared to free snipers that feel slapped together.
cons
- Aggressive Monetization 💸: The game pushes in-app purchases hard, with weapon upgrades costing real cash to avoid hours of grind. Sniper Fury has similar issues, but Hitman Sniper's paywall for top-tier rifles is more annoying.
- Repetitive Level Design 🔁: Most missions look alike—hotel rooms, industrial areas—which gets stale after 20 levels. Sniper 3D at least varies its environments more, even if the gameplay is brainless.
- Bulky Controls on Android 📱: The touch-to-zoom and drag-to-aim can be imprecise on smaller screens, making quick headshots frustrating. A controller would fix this, but there's no support, unlike some PC sniper games.
